Starting in 2010

Hasil Foundation was born in the blistering heat of 2010 with Ramzan Project. Ramzan is the
Muslim month of fasting, taking place annually, in which everyone able, despite their social and
financial standing fasts from dusk to dawn. Our 14 years of serving meals in Ramzan was
possible due to the zeal & zest our team, and continuous support of our donors.

Meals Distribution Process

Over 14 years we have designed and executed three different models to distribute food to our beneficiaries.

The primary part of all three models are the on-site surveys that begin each year 4 months in advance of Ramzan. Our specialized teams through door-to-door surveys shortlist the beneficiaries based on priority and the number of people defined by us for that year. This number started with 300 needy people being fed per day in 2010 to 5000 per day in 2023.

Priority is given to women of childbearing age, orphans, the elderly, and those unwell. Once chosen, the beneficiary is handed a token card by our team as an identification card to verify them on the day of distribution.

Method 1 - Volunteers

Volunteers hand delivered cooked meals to the selected beneficiaries daily for the 30 days of Ramzan 2 hours
before breaking the fast. The menu included meat and poultry items in addition to other food items. The menu
was well received by the beneficiaries as they were unable to buy meat on their low salaries. Additionally, the
day-to-day interaction between the beneficiaries and the volunteers of Hasil Foundation over 30 days created
strong bonds on the ground. This initiative was a step towards building a strong community.

Method 2 - Community Kitchen

A soup kitchen was set up for the 30 days of Ramzan and run by the locals for the locals of the Mian Mir
urban slum in Lahore. We empowered the community by hiring a team of 35 women and children to run the soup kitchen under our management. 1000 underprivileged residents of the Mian Mir urban slum were invited daily to a location in the area and were served food at the time of breaking the fast.
The project was a huge success among the locals because of it`s self-help aspect. The women and children were extremely grateful to get the opportunity to earn money and address their financial needs. They were particularly happy about being able to buy new clothes for Eid (the celebration that follows the month of Ramzan) which under regular circumstances is a luxury for them.

Method 3 - Monthly Rashan

When the Corona Virus attacked the world and a large number of underprivileged people living below the poverty line in urban slums in Lahore started losing their jobs the need to provide food to these households was greater than ever before.
The team of Hasil Foundation decided to adapt the distribution method of the project from providing cooked meals daily to proving dry ration for the 30 days of Ramzan in one go. Due to the dangers associated with close interaction during distribution the members of Hasil Foundation wore protective gear for safety reasons.
In their Corona Virus protective gear, the ration was hand delivered 2 days before the start of Ramzan for the full 30 days of the month.
The beneficiaries were extremely grateful to receive this help during trying times.
