Healthy food, healthy kids project

Nutritious meals for low-income schools

Serving 350 students meals, daily.

Launch in 2022

In Pakistan, 10 million children are suffering from malnutrition (Unicef).

Pakistan has the world`s second-highest number of out-of-school children (Unicef).

Hasil`s food program encourages students to attend school. To prevent malnutrition, Hasil Foundation has tailored a diet plan with the Healthy Food Kids project.

How we do it

A physical examination of the children was undertaken to note their dietary requirements.

Following this, a certified nutritionist was hired to design meals according to the results of the examination to combat hunger and provide nutrition.

8:00 AM – Milk arrives. Each child is given a boiled egg and a glass of milk in the morning. Children begin school focused on learning, not a hungry stomach.

Meanwhile, the caterers start preparing lunch on campus.

11.00 AMlunch is ready and distributed to the class by their respective class monitors

Our target group is the working poor, primarily orphans, widows, and the unwell. They live in the urban slums and work very hard to make ends meet, often making not more than $ 65.

With a range of 6-9 persons/ family, the cost of feeding, clothing, and education is high. Therefore, we serve as a supportive arm for these people.

Through our food initiative, we try to take care of one of their essential needs so they have one less worry.  We currently operate in the urban slums of Lahore, Pakistan but hope to take the project nationwide.

Improved Health of kids

We are currently in the pilot phase of the project. The project duration so far is three months. In this short period, the response from the schoolteachers and students has been fantastic. The students have shown an average growth of 1cm over three months. Their growth is recorded monthly.  As for the teachers, they have confirmed that children have transformed from being tired and uninterested in learning to active, energetic children eager to learn.

Regular attendance at the school

In addition to better nourishment, the ‘healthy kids’ project also helped improve the attendance rate of the students at the school. Which was another encouraging factor for our team to promote this effort.
